Discover our stay at U Nimman Chiang Mai, a five-star hotel in the heart of Nimman that we have returned to twice within the past six months. We share why we chose to stay again, what stood out to us, and whether the overall experience and hotel grounds are worthy of a five-star stay.
Who Is This Hotel Best For?
A great choice for those who want to enjoy the city of Chiang Mai, explore its many good-value modern cafés during the day, experience the nightlife around Nimman after dark, and browse for Chiang Mai-style clothing and accessories.
As with every U hotel, you can expect the consistency of a hotel chain, which may appeal to travellers who prefer not to gamble on the sometimes unpredictable experience of an independent boutique hotel. One of the brand’s best-known features is its 24-hour room policy, meaning you are entitled to your room for a full 24 hours from the time you check in. This makes it particularly convenient for those arriving in Chiang Mai at an awkward hour, or departing later in the evening or at night.
The Check-in
The hotel’s check-in process is one of the fastest we have experienced, helped by its flexible 24-hour check-in policy.
Note: If you are staying here with a car, parking is located at One Nimman, just beside the hotel. It is slightly inconvenient, as there is a short walk between the parking area and the hotel—not quite the most five-star experience, but understandable given the central location.

The Room
The room has a modern design with touches of accent colour that keep it from feeling like a lifeless box, giving the space a more polished and complete character. Subtle Lanna-inspired details also add a sense of place without overwhelming the contemporary design.
Inside the room, the usually untouchable, overpriced drinks in the hotel fridge are not entirely off-limits here—you are offered one complimentary drink of your choice per person, per night.
The layout itself is functional and conventional, with both a small relaxation area and a workspace positioned at the far end of the room.
Sleep Quality and Comfort
We found the bed very comfortable and slept well throughout our stay. The room also has good interior lighting. Although the window is smaller than the full-length windows found in many modern hotels, it still lets in a decent amount of natural light for those who enjoy waking up to the morning sun.
For pillows, there is a choice of different types able to be selected based on your preferences.
The Bathroom
The bathroom comes with a spacious, modern shower and quality amenities. There is also a small touch of personalisation at check-in, where you can choose your preferred hand soap scent.
The Breakfast
The breakfast buffet offers a good variety of choices, including several Northern Thai dishes. There is also a little added fun at the make-your-own pancake and waffle station, which we particularly enjoyed.
For those who miss the main breakfast period, the hotel also offers a “Breakfast Whenever/Wherever” option, allowing you to enjoy breakfast at any time and in your preferred location until 10 p.m.
The Facilities
The hotel offers the usual pool and fitness facilities, including a swimming pool, which was under renovation during our stay in June 2026. We are unsure of the exact nature of the work being carried out, but for those visiting after the renovation or maintenance is completed, the improvements should hopefully be a welcome addition.
During the renovation, guests were offered access to the pool at a nearby hotel, along with a complimentary cocktail coupon. We found this to be an appropriate response to the minor inconvenience, and a nice reflection of the hotel’s attention to guest experience.
There is also a happy hour during the stay, with complimentary cocktails that can be enjoyed around the pool area, during normal operation of the facility.
Additionally, the hotel provides free rental bicycles, which we found particularly useful for those looking to explore the Nimman neighbourhood, as the area is big enough that biking around makes more sense than walking.
Nearby Activities
Nimman is one of the highlights for us every time we visit Chiang Mai, so staying right in the area is a major advantage. Parking can sometimes be quite challenging during the high season, which makes simply walking around the neighbourhood one of the best things to do near the hotel.
There are countless good cafés, along with plenty of Western- and Thai-style breakfast and brunch options, and of course, great coffee. Enjoy a cup of your preferred drink while browsing the clothing, accessory, and souvenir shops scattered around the area—it is one of the simplest and most enjoyable ways to experience Nimman.

U Nimman Chiang Mai is a hotel we would recommend for an easy and conveniently located stay in the centre of Chiang Mai. For travellers who are not particularly looking for a highly curated stay experience, or a hotel surrounded by nature, it is a reliable and comfortable choice.
As a five-star establishment, the hotel does enough to make the overall experience feel more special than a conventional stay, which is the minimum standard we would expect at this level.
We especially think it works well as a first night after arriving in Chiang Mai, or as a final night before leaving the city. The hotel’s 24-hour room policy makes those awkward arrival and departure times much easier to manage—something we honestly wish more hotels would offer.
For those looking to experience a more luxurious side of Chiang Mai while staying in the city centre, we also recommend InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping, another one of our preferred stays. Alternatively, if you are looking for something more nature-focused, The Veranda High Resort Chiang Mai is another option we recommend, located a little further outside the city.
