Where to Stay in Kanchanaburi: 5 Hotels We Recommend

We recently visited Kanchanaburi and stayed at a carefully selected range of hotels across the province. From a simple campsite cabin beside the river to floating hotels and luxury pool villas, this guide explores the different types of accommodation you can consider for a trip to Kanchanaburi.

Every hotel recommended in this article was personally selected, stayed in, and paid for by us. None of the stays were sponsored by the properties, and all opinions are based entirely on our own experience.

How we choose our hotels

First, location. All five hotels were selected based on where they are situated within some of the major areas of Kanchanaburi Province. Given the nature of the destination, every property on this list is either a riverside hotel, a floating hotel, or a stay with a particularly notable view.

Second, visual appeal. During our initial research, we looked for hotels with attractive rooms and properties that stood out visually. At the same time, we also considered whether the overall design and experience felt appropriate for the price being charged.

After staying at each property ourselves, we then evaluated the experience using a more detailed scoring system and divided our recommendations into four levels:

  1. Hand-Picked
  2. Preferred
  3. Selective
  4. Subjective

All four levels represent stays that we were satisfied with. The system simply helps distinguish how much each hotel exceeded our expectations in terms of quality for the price, overall experience, and how much we personally enjoyed the stay.

After completing our trip, these are the five hotels we would recommend for a good stay in Kanchanaburi.

Note: All prices listed are subject to seasonal changes and refer to the starting room category available at the time of our stay or research.

Tara Villa

A modern, clean, hotel room at Tara Villa.

Style: Riverside pool villa (Luxury)
*Price: from ~6,000 Baht/night
Location: Mueang Kanchanaburi (town center)
Recommendation level: Hand-Picked
Room: 1-Bedroom Pool Villa
Deal: With Breakfast (Floating Breakfast) & free minibar

A pool villa beside the Khwae Yai River, offering your own private pool and a beautifully designed room at what we consider to be one of the better-value price points in Thailand.

At around the price we paid, this hotel felt like a very good deal. The stay gave us the sense that we received more than—or at the very least, exactly what—we had paid for, which was probably its strongest point for us.

It is also a great upscale option for travellers who want to stay close to Kanchanaburi town centre while still enjoying a peaceful riverside setting.

MITI-TIKAAN

When modern minimalist architecture meets Hotel, Miti-Tikaan, a luxury stay in Kanchanaburi.
An elevated stay in luxury villa of Miti-Tikaan, bedroom with a view.

Style: Getaway Neuro-Mental Wellness Villa (Luxury)
*Price: ~10,000 Baht/night
Location: Tha Mueang (east of town center)
Recommendation level: Hand-Picked
Room: Villa
Deal: With Breakfast (At Restaurant)

A hotel with only four villas, all clad in white, this is not so much a place for disconnection as it is one for “reconnecting with what matters most,” according to the hotel. The stay feels highly exclusive, set within an architecturally intriguing property and complemented by a range of neuro-wellness-focused activities, including sound healing, ice bathing, and ritual walking designed to help regulate the nervous system.

The architectural concept is centred around natural light, something we could clearly feel throughout our stay in one of the villas. Set on a piece of land between a canal and rice fields, with mountains in the distance, the atmosphere is quiet and calming. Every surface felt considered, and that sense of quality carried through to the amenities and even something as simple as the water.

Note: For those seeking a good night’s sleep, the bed, pillows, and mattress here are among the best we have ever experienced.

Cherlynn

Cherlynn resort, Kanchanaburi, a floating hotel on Khwae Noi River with jungle feel.

Style: River Floating Hotel
*Price: ~4,000 Baht/night
Location: Sai Yok (National Park)
Recommendation level: Preferred
Room: Superior (Floating)
Deal: With Breakfast (In-room), (Free ice cream and activity when booking directly with the hotel)

A floating hotel on the Khwae Noi River, located further from Kanchanaburi town centre towards Sai Yok National Park. The stay has a distinctive river-focused character, giving you the chance to spend a night floating on the water.

In the afternoon, the hotel takes guests on a river raft cruise, where you can enjoy the scenery or jump into the water and float along with the raft. Throughout our stay, the service was consistently good and added nicely to the overall experience. Even a goodbye drink was provided before we left.

We have also stayed here for a visit to Baan Tao Than, one of the scenic highlights of our trip in Kanchanaburi.

Wanakan

A quiet stay in Kanchanaburi at Wanakan.

Style: Riverside Resort (homey)
*Price: ~3,000 Baht/night
Location: Sai Yok (close to the Death Railway)
Recommendation level: Selective
Room: Deluxe River View (Japanese room)
Deal: No Breakfast (but available for cheap price)

A quiet stay with a local touch, and probably the most homey option on this list. The riverside grounds also include a small camping area, which adds to the relaxed atmosphere.

For the rooms, you can choose between a Japanese-style room and a European-inspired room, each with its own distinct character.

The owner was very friendly and more than willing to recommend places for us to visit around the area. The room itself was clean and spacious, with a large bathtub and a gorgeous view.

It is also a great base for exploring the area around the Death Railway.

Z9

A floating hotel with incredible looking architecture, Z9 Kanchanaburi.
The bedroom of a floating hotel at Srinagarind Dam, Z9 resort.

Style: Floating Hotel
*Price: ~4,000 Baht/night
Location: Si Sawat (close to Erawan Falls)
Recommendation level: Subjective
Room: Standard (Floating)
Deal: With Breakfast (Buffet) & free minibar

A floating hotel on Srinagarindra Dam, with visually striking architecture from the outside and wide-open views across the reservoir. The property has attracted plenty of attention from travellers looking to stay in the area and has remained a popular choice since opening in 2017. Even after almost a decade, we found the hotel to still be in good condition.

The main appeal of staying here is for those who want to spend time on the water, whether swimming or enjoying activities such as paddleboarding, kayaking, jet skiing, and more.

Visit Z9 Resort Kanchanaburi Review for our full review of the hotel.

If you are planning to visit Erawan Falls, this is also one of the closest options on our list and the one we would most recommend for staying nearby. You can also visit our Erawan Falls guide for more information about the waterfall and how to plan your visit.

Closing

All of the hotels we selected were, at the very least, good stays for us. You can refer to our recommendation levels to see how highly we rated each one individually.

The hotels are also spaced roughly an hour’s drive apart, which means they can work together as part of a wider Kanchanaburi itinerary rather than simply as separate stays. If you are planning a trip and would like a route to base it on, we recommend our 6-day Kanchanaburi itinerary.

Personally, we enjoyed every stay and felt that each was worth the price we paid. Some are places we would recommend experiencing at least once, while others are stays we would happily return to. Overall, each one is a solid choice within its respective area.
